Film Submissions: General Rules & Regulations
1. The work must be an integral whole in itself, i.e. not an episode of a TV serial or a TV programme.
2. All films will only be eligible for the official competition after the selection committee’s approval or competition’s directorial decision.
3. The organizer may reject any work without providing any reasons. However, they may be shown in one of the sidebar programmes.
4. Films participating in the short film competition must be less than 40 minutes in length. Also, films participating in the long short-film or feature length competition must not be less than 40 minutes in length.*
5. Films must be produced after October 2008.
6. The final deadline for accepting submitted applications and films is on the 1st of August, 2009.
7. Entries are only to be submitted online at www.efilmc.ae and must be completed in both Arabic & English.
8. Ensure that you print and keep a copy of your completed entry form and registration number.
9. Every entry form must include three stills and a director’s photo with a resolution no less than 300dpi, either sent through email or submitted on a CD/DVD.
10. All films in languages other than English must be subtitled in English.
11. The film must be sent in DV Cam or Mini-DV or HDV format, DVD’s will strictly NOT be accepted. Should the film be on film, an exception will be made for acquiring a DVD screener. The final screening of the film will have to be on in it's original film print format.
12. Awards will be given to the Director of the film unless the award mentions otherwise. The producer will not be receiving any awards or cash prizes.
13. Screening times and jury’s decisions are final and are not negotiable.
14. The organizer has the right to publish the titles of all submitted works, and the usage of extracts from them in its programmes & other media.
15. The film should not previously have been shown on any television channel nor streamed via the internet to any public audience. However, films that have participated in previous film festivals and competitions other than the Emirates Film Competition are allowed to submit their entries.
16. The organizer is entitled to retain the work for its own archive.
17. All transportation and accommodation costs are entirely borne by the organizer.
18. Participants are not entitled to withdraw their films after submission.
19. Rules & regulations are non-negotiable. Participating in the competition automatically means acceptance of all rules of the competition.

20. Works may be submitted to the competition on the condition that they respect the aims of the competition; specifically, films must deal with Culture or U.A.E. Heritage.
21. Works submitted by production companies, colleges, universities and film groups will be accepted on the basis that they are shot in the U.A.E. and comply with the rule number (20).

22. Works may be submitted to the competition on the condition that the film is made in the G.C.C. not necessarily a G.C.C. national.
23. UAE films may no longer participate in the G.C.C. Competition.
24. An economy airline ticket and accommodation will only be provided to directors whose short films are selected in the official competition and other sections.
25. Economy airline tickets and accommodation will be provided to (1) Producer, Director, and (1) lead actor in a participating long short film or a feature length film.*
* The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute, and the British Film Institute all define a feature as a film with a running time of 40 minutes or longer.
Emirates Film Grant - General Rules & Regulations EFG 3rd Edition
Application Form (English & Arabic)
1. Open to UAE National writers, directors and/or producers who have completed a short, feature or documentary film. However, it is allowed to have an expatriate writer. The Film Director has to be a UAE National. The Pitch and the grants are only applicable to UAE Nationals.

2. A submitted Project has to be a completed screenplay or a project currently in pre-production for a feature length film. First Drafts will be considered.
3. Project must be submitted by attached director or producer. All those can be the same person.
4. The First screening of the Film will be reserved for the Middle East International Film Festival - Abu Dhabi and the Emirates Film Competition.
5. The deadline of submitting all paper work is August 1, 2009. Any late paper work will strictly not be accepted.
6. The final deadline of film completion is 1st of October 2010.
7. The EFC film grant can only be given to fully support a single initiative and has to maintain the sole supporter and sponsor of it.
However, we are open to allow other entities to aid in the production of the film as long as the EFC management is notified and the management agrees on the support and the conditions that follow.
8. No other company/organization other than the ones stated in this document will be given credit unless approved by the EFC Management. Consequently, it is an absolute requirement to mention any other companies/organizations affiliation in the EFC application form.
11. The final film duration should not be less than 72 Minutes for screenplays submitted for a feature length film grant. Also, the final film duration of a short film must not exceed 40 minutes for a screenplay submitted for a short film grant.
12. The winning Emirates Film Grant (EFG) storywriter/screenwriter shall receive a 5% portion of the award. The rest of the EFG Award goes to producing the film. No EFG award or prize money will be given to the attached director or the producer of the film. All monetary prized awards will be purely given to the writers' of the stories and the rest be spent on the production of the film. Thereafter should the film be submitted to film festivals or be screened publicly for a fee and win, All prize moneys/profits thereafter will be equally divided to the specified winner/beneficiary and its producers and/or writers, wherever specified. Should the final film be awarded after the creation and the participation of the film, The prize money goes to the director and the producer of the film unless the award is specified to be given to a particular person/talent.
13. The Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) will remain as a producer and will have creative control over the project.
14. The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage will draft a legal contract to be signed by the winning filmmakers. A template of such contract is available for viewing.
