Total Emirati films submitted: 84 films (24 General, 37 Students, 23 Special Screening)

Three different competitions constituting the "Emirates Film Competition" in the fifth edition held from the 1st to the 6th of March 2006:
• The Emirates Competition: Fifth edition, For films that deal with a local theme or at least include an Emirati element.
• The G.C.C. Competition: First edition, For films by G.C.C. directors.
• Emirates Photography Competition: First edition, For UAE photographers only.
Total cost of the prizes in the three competitions: 240.000 DH.
Prizes: All prizes in both competitions Emirates and G.C.C. are presented by Ministry of Information and Culture of the United Arab Emirates, with total of 210.000 DH with the exception of Dubai International Film Festival Prize to a UAE Artist for Exceptional Talent in Filmmaking 15.000 DH. All prizes for the Emirates Photography Competition are presented by the family of the late photographer Ali Aldhaheri, with a total of 15.000 DH.
Other Sections: Out of competition. It is possible for other directors to participate in the Competition's other sections regardless of the origin.
This Session's Theme: "Haiku Cinema" or very short films, where the duration does not exceed 5 minutes. It is possible for anyone in any part of the world to participate in this program, knowing that the Syrian film critic Salah Sermini, who is residing in Paris, is the organiser for this program.
Arabic Panorama: Out of competition. It is possible for Arab filmmakers residing in the Arab region or out to send their films on DVD or VHS with English subtitles to the competition for prior selection. Films fiction, animation or experimental should not exceed 60 minutes, only documentary films are excluded from this condition.
Besides the competition, there will be screenings of works –movies & TV films– of various genre including fiction & documentary from around the world, plus seminars & symposiums.
